Donut Chart Example
When to Use a Donut Chart
- When showing proportional data and percentages of a whole
- When you need space in the center for summary information or labels
- When you want to compare parts of a whole while showing a total or central metric
Benefits
- Provides center space for additional information like totals or context
- Shows proportional relationships between data categories
- More visually appealing than standard pie charts for many applications
Disadvantages
- Small segments can be difficult to see or label clearly
- Not ideal when comparing more than 5-7 categories
- Still has limitations of pie charts for precise comparisons between segments
Overview
- Donut charts are a variation of pie charts with a hole in the center
- The center can be used to show totals, percentages, or other summary information
- They are best used when showing relative proportions of data where exact comparisons are not critical
